When my daughter was about three, we loved to visit the reconstructed mountain farm at Humpback Rocks. It was through these visits that I made the acquaintance of Lewis Wright, a skilled stonemason and log house builder. He helped in the preservation of the mountain farm buildings. He did the stonework on the big house next to ours, which I designed. For years we would collaborate on a few projects. You meet the best people when you are out with your kids.
Naturally, I wanted to try my hand at his half-dovetail notches and my daughter loved the Humpback Cabin. I wanted to complete the job before she had children of her own, so I used pressure treated landscape timbers rather than try to square a lot of real logs. We had the wheel and the milk can in our gardens already.
My son was born about the time I built this and the two children enjoyed many adventures in it!
